end

Overall, I really liked this Challenge! I learned that a lot of things aren't as scary or hard as I thought and there is still so much left to learn. I think I'll keep using the RSS feeds and the ofice 2.0 the most; at least for work. They were both pretty helpful. I also really liked Flickr and Facebook, if I ever have free time to do that kind of thing. I really think this will help me to better help the patrons so I don't have to stare at them blankly when they ask about some of these things. This really helped me to not be so scared of trying new things out there on the net. I also learned that if you play around with things and they don't work or you change it, that is ok. that has always been a hard one for me.

wikis

I really liked this. I have always like Wikipedia but have been a little leary because I wasn't sure how accurate it was. I'll probably start using it more now. I really liked looking at the wikis that were on the list. I like how different people can add things. It would be neat to have a community wiki on the library site with different events and things.

Bookmarking

I did not find this all that helpful. I honestly don't think I would use it. Maybe if I worked from home sometimes, or had a laptop and a "regular" computer I would use the bookmarking.

facebook

I was surprised by how much I liked Facebook. I always thought I was too "old" to really like it; but it was really addicting to see pictures and stuff of people I haven't seen for years. It was pretty easy to set upn my account. It was also a lot easier than I thought to find people; sometimes if the picture they showed was not clear or was of a scene or something, I was not sure I had the right person. I did not like myspace very much. It just seemed kind of boring. I can see how people get really addicted to this! I could easily look at this everyday. It is scary to think of the creepy people out there though; you have to be so careful.

Office 2.0

I love this! I uploaded a document that I revise every week. It is really handy not to have to carry around a flashdrive since I change computers a couple times a day. I also think it would be great for a group working on a project; then everyone could work on it whenever it was convenient.

Podcasts

I was really excited to do this lesson because I thought podcasts sounded fun. Maybe I just didn't run into any I liked, but they really just annoy me. I added Cool Tools for Library 2.0 because it seemed to have some good info for what we are doing. i found that if a person's voice doesn't sound right or if they just go on and on, I do not want to listen to them. I don't think this is something I would do on my own unless I stumbled onto something I really liked. As far as the library goes, it might be fun to do a "What's going on in the library this week" thing or do bestseller lists or book reviews.

Playing with Flickr

I LOVE the different things you can do with Flickr. I could sit and play with that for hours. There are lots of ways I could use this personally and with the library. I really liked the Bead Art, make your own poster (what fun for libraries to make their own READ posters!), Hockneyizer, and the Mosiac Maker. I didn't realize you could do all these things in Flickr. I just thought you posted and looked at pictures. It is a really fun website!

Flickr

I really like Flickr. I've heard of it a lot, but never used it before. Even if you're not putting pictures on it, it's really fun just to look at the populart tagged pictures; there's some really cool stuff out there! I think it would be neat to use a site like this if maybe your library was doing remodeling or something like that, you could put pictures out there for the patrons to see. That would be pretty neat. It would also be cool to have pictures of programs as long as you watched out for minors being able to be identified.
I choose this picture off Flickr because I really like running and would love to go watch (and MAYBE run one someday)

RSS

I love the RSS feeds! There is so much out there; I think I could subscribe to hundreds of feeds. I can see how these would be a huge timesaver for people who are on the internet a lot or people who just want to check their email and a couple news sites. There is something there for everyone. I used Google Reader, it took some time to figure out how the searching worked and I ended up subscribed to 165 things I didn't want to subscribe to, but once I got around that, it was pretty easy. This would be great for my personal use, I think it would also be neat to use at work to find out when ne books are coming out and book reviews. There are just so many things to do with this. I can see how this might get some people in trouble; I want to check it all the time and just keep adding and adding....

Twitter

I read the articles about Twitter. The one about the guy who accidentally got a search party called in on him was scary- you just never know whether to take stuff seriously or not.

Making the Blog

Setting up this blog was a lot easier than I thought it would be! The hardest part was coming up with the name and after that, deciding what to write in it all the time. I came up with the title because I love to run, but am VERY slow and I am a mother to two wonderful, beautiful little boys! I think it would be useful to have a blog on the library website that patrons could use to give suggestions or to tell us things they like or don't like about the library. I also think it would be fun to blog from home if I could. It would be a fun way to keep in touch with out of town relatives and friends.

Learning Habits

When I think about the 7 1/2 lifelong learning habits we learned about, the hardest one for me is play! I like to just plow through and get things done; sometimes it feels like a waste of time for me to mess around with something to learn diferent ways to do things if I already know one way that works for me. That should be an easy one to work on during this challenge though- it seems like most of the focus will be on messing around to learn how to better use new technology. I think the easiest habit for me is to teach or mentor others. I have a teaching degree and love to show other people how to do things. I am definitely a helper!
